Welcome to the first ever staff newsletter — The Scoop! I hope this digital format will make it easy for us to connect, share insider information and some interactive content. Please take a moment to check out “flavor of the month.” There you will find all the important back to school dates, meetings, and information. Take a moment to RSVP to the activities requiring your response. You’ll mainly be clicking a link to send an email to Pam. Super simple. You don’t even have to get out of your beach chair (I hope that’s where some of you are right now.).
Before we dive in, I want to ask for your help. When you return to your classroom, would you please be sure to clean out your closet and return any items that have been checked out to the table in Room 122. Tricia and Christine have been organizing our resources over the summer - and several items are still missing. Thank you!
Now for some updates…
There will be some new faces on staff this year. Katie Carter is our new 3 Day Lead. She’ll be teaching M,W, Th with Emily McComb.
Elizabeth Saldarriaga is the new 2 & 3 Day Music Teacher and a 2 & 3 Fun Friday teacher.
Kathleen Rinka and Amy Dixon are new floaters. Kathleen will float (w/Samantha Lyons) with the 2 Day Team. Amy Dixon will float with the 3 Day team.
Carolyn Caplan will be doing some Friday floating as well.
And Courtney Morgan will be teaching Spanish enrichment for Extended Day
I also want to introduce you to Jill Hadlock. Jill has an extensive ministry background from Reformed Theological Seminary, Campus Crusade for Christ, and a current member of the Leadership Development/Human Resources Team for The JESUS Film Project.
Jill will be working with us in a volunteer capacity for the next year or two. Her role will be to help us fully integrate a Christian worldview into our curriculum and educational philosophy. Huh? Not sure exactly what that means? Neither do we! We are studying and praying and creating some of this from scratch. We are going to take it slow and steady and trust God to reveal what this will look like. The first step in this process is getting all of you to complete a very simple survey. Just follow the link at end of this letter.
There is a new piece of technology I want to introduce you to as well. It’s called Kaymbu . It is an iPad-based app that allows teachers to capture photos and videos of important classroom activities and share them directly with families in a weekly digest (replacing the weekly learning log). We will also use Kaymbu to capture and organize pictures and videos for assessments/parent conferences. Since there is a big learning curve for all of us with this app, we will be rolling it out in two stages. Mrs. Pantaleon, Mrs. Madigan, Ms. Brown, and Mrs. Summer’s classes will begin with Kaymbu in the fall. Our goal is to bring everyone else on board beginning in January.
And did I mention that we’re celebrating a big anniversary this year? 65 years! It’s pretty amazing and wonderful to be a part of a school with such a rich and wonderful history. God has certainly showed His faithfulness and His favor to Weekday School for many years. I know you feel as honored as I do to be a part of the story He is telling through our preschool. I look forward to celebrating with you all year long!
