Are you happy the school year has started? Ask this question to a group of your friends and you may be surprised by the varying responses you receive. Some parents love the laid-back quality of summer days. Other parents crave the structure the school year brings to family life.
I love both seasons for different reasons (sounds like the beginning of a a cheesy song). I enjoy being “summer mom” because I can say “yes” more often:
“Yes, you can have friends over.”
“Yes, you can sleep in (one huge upside to having teenagers under the roof).”
“Yes, we have free time this weekend.”
My “school mom” routine is stricter. I know that I am saying “no” more than I am saying “yes.” Because we have to get to bed at a decent hour and get up even when we don’t feel like it with work and homework and laundry and sports squeezed in the middle, “school mom” can be a bit of a task master.
Like me, maybe you are learning to embrace the reality that your parenting style shifts and morphs depending on the season you are in. We are so honored to be partnering with you with for this “preschool season” in your family’s life. Honestly, it’s one of the best seasons of all!
As we begin our partnership this year, I want to invite you ALL to join us for Open House on Tuesday, September 22. I know school Open House may feel more like a parenting obligation than an evening to anticipate. I totally get that. I want to assure you that we work hard to make our Open House a value-added experience for busy preschool parents.
I also want to make you aware that we offer two kinds of age-appropriate developmental screenings at WDS in late September-early October: speech/language screening and occupational screening (assesses motor coordination and self-care skills). If you are interested in learning more about these screenings and meeting the therapists we contract with, I invite you to come to an informal Parent Chat on Wednesday, September 16 right after morning carpool. We’ll send flyers home in your child’s school bag with Parent Chat and screening details.
Ecclesiastes 3:1 says, “There is a time for everything, and a season for every purpose under heaven.” I am so thankful for this preschool season God has created. And for the time we have to spend together in the months ahead for the purpose of growing in God’s love.
