You have proably heard the expression “the days are long, but the years are short” to describe the experience of parenting. Is this ringing true for you? The daily demands of parenting can feel never ending. And yet, the start a new year reminds us that time is flying by. I enjoy January because it is the midpoint of the school year - a plateau of sorts. It’s a month that creates space to celebrate what has been accomplished and think about what’s ahead.
Here are two important ways we are doing this at Weekday School.
First, on January 31 we will be celebrating our 65th anniversary at our Sunday morning worship services. We would be delighted for your family join us that Sunday in worship and pop by the WDS booth in our carpool area for a sweet treat. If your family is looking for a church home (every child needs one!) this would be a great day to visit and see lots of familiar WDS faces. I’ll get you more details about that Sunday as the date approaches. Pencil it in until then. 65 years is an accomplishment to celebrate.
Secondly, we are planning for the future by opening registration for the 2016-2017 school year to all of you on Wednesday, January 13. We hope your plans are to continue with us next year because we LOVE your children (and you too, of course). Check your child’s school bag in the coming days for registration details. We open registration to families on our waiting list and the community at large on February 1 so you want to be sure to secure your child’s spot before that date.
To help guide you in planning for your child’s educational future, we have a 4 Day Curriculum Preview for 3 Day parents on Monday, January 25 right after morning carpool (9:15am in Room 133). This will be a brief but informative time for you to hear about how we prepare our students for kindergarten - we have some awesome things to share about our program!
Speaking of kindergarten...you may have also heard it said that "kindergarten is the new first grade." There is so much attention (and hype) swirling around about how to know if your child will be ready for kindergarten. See our take on kindergarten readiness in the “how to” section of this month’s newsletter. Please know that I am always open for a personal conversation if you want to talk about this transition. Give me a call or flag me down in carpool if you want to set up a time to meet.
As we begin 2016 together, when you need staying power for the long days of parenting, remember Galatians 6:9: “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” Whenever you feel anxious about the speed with which the year is passing, find reassurance here “'For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.'”Jeremiah 29:11
Happy New Year!
