Hello, Weekday School Parents! Welcome to the first newsletter of the 2017-18 school year. We use several forms of communication to keep in touch with you including Sunday email reminders, flyers in school bags, text/emails from Kaymu. The purpose of our digital newsletter is to inspire and encourage you as parents. I hope you will find it to be a helpful guide.
As I was digging through some family photos last week, I unearthed this picture of my daughter with beloved WDS teacher, Betty Magee.
Mrs. Magee taught at Weekday School for over 30 years. She was a masterful teacher who had a keen understanding of how to wrangle a group of three year olds. This hand puppet mouse was named “Squeaky” (if my memory serves me correctly) and he was shy and didn’t like loud noises. He would only come out to say hello to the children if they were being quiet. Do you see brilliance of this classroom management strategy?
What I love about this picture is that demonstrates the magic of the preschool years. I use the word “magic” intentionally. It is a season of suspended reality - where imagination, pretend, and play are all the rage.
My hope and prayer for this year is we would ENJOY preschool together - teachers, children, and parents. It’s not always easy to parent or teacher preschoolers, but it is extremely rewarding. They are so free with their affection and giggles.
“Will you play with me?”
“Will you read this to me?”
They are open and eager to have us in their world. They look up to us and imitate everything (!) we do. It’s a magical, delightful, wonderful stage. Let’s ENJOY it together.
To start, I want to invite you to join us for the Prayer Walk on Wednesday, August 16 from 10:00 - 10:30am under the Angel Wing. This is an annual tradition where staff, parents, and children gather for a brief devotion and prayer followed by a self-guided walk through the halls of Weekday School to pray over classrooms and the people who will occupy them.
We are counting the days until school begins and thanking God for YOUR children. It’s going to be a wonderful year!
